The Coalition for Glen Cove is an association
of residents of Glen Cove New York who are advocates for public education.

Meeting of Monday 17 September 2001 7 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Agenda

Actions

We had a table at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Welcome Back Sunday, September 9th at 11 AM. along with other groups that use the St. Paul's facilities, to display information about our group. The displays followed the St. Paul's worship service at 10 AM.

On November 8 the Deasy and Landing Schools will have their Auction Dinner at the Milleridge Inn. Last year the Coalition took a half-page ad in their dinner journal for $50. Eileen Borer is the journal chairperson. I suggest that we again take an ad this year. If anyone objects, let me know.

We have received a thank you letter from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church:

Dear Don,

Please allow me to thank you and the Coalition for Glen Cove for your generous contribution to Saint Paul’s Church.

As you know, I have been a supporter of the goals and objectives of the Coalition for Glen Cove since its inception and I continue to support, in every way that I can, the efforts you are making in improving our schools.

Please extend my best wishes to all the members of the Coalition. Keep up the good work!

Dear Mr. Scarl and Coalition Members,

On behalf of our young patients and their families, thank you so very much for donating $25 to the Cancer Center for “Kids,” in memory of Robert Weber. Acknowledgement has been sent to Bill and Kathy Weber.

It is through the kindness and generosity of people like you that we are able to carry out our mission of providing an emotional “safety net” as well as state-of-the-art medical care for children with cancer and blood diseases.

We wish you health and happiness.

Sincerely yours,

Maxine Andrade

Pediatric Subspecialty Manager

The Cancer Center for Kids

Discussion:

Several members have suggested speakers for our meetings, enough, in fact, that we should continue to sponsor public meetings in addition to our regular Coalition business meetings. Doug Brown has arranged for candidates for Glen Cove mayor and city council Mary Ann Holzkamp, David Zatlin, Frank O'Regen, and Mike Norman to speak at an open community meeeting on Tuesday October 2nd.

We would like to invite John Hildebrand from Newsday to speak.

Father Doug Hutchings has offered to coordinate a discussion on violence in the schools using, in part, materials from the American Psychological Association.

We have also been having a continuing discussion about inviting the people who wrote to the papers during the school board campaign to a public discussion in order to hear their objections to the Glen Cove schools.
