"Great Things About the Glen Cove Schools" Bookmark Contest
The results of the “Great Things About the Glen Cove Schools” bookmark contest were announced on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2001, by Leslie Whitely, chair of the bookmark contest sponsored by the Coalition for Glen Cove.
Students from first to eighth grade submitted 455 Great Things, of which 36 were chosen to be printed on decorative bookmarks distributed in the schools and in the community. Each of the 36 winners received a personalized signed certificate and the satisfaction of seeing their name and their Great Thing printed on thousands of bookmarks.
Ms. Whitely said, “Everyone who sees the bookmarks is touched by the feelings that our students have for their fellow students, teachers, and schools. Although we could only fit 36 Great Things on the bookmark, all of the 455 Great Things that were submitted were wonderful. We thank our Glen Cove students for putting into words how they feel about their schools.”
