The Schools and the Community

The Glen Cove schools

Glen Cove has a fine school system with appropriate programs for students of every ability from kindergarten to 12th grade. Over 90% of our graduates go on to college, many with advanced placement credit and scholarships. Every year, our teachers and students win national, state, and county awards, as do our student publications, musical productions, and athletic teams. Each resident of Glen Cove should be proud of our schools and should be proud to give them the support that they deserve.

What the schools do for the students

Public schools teach students to read and write, to calculate and think analytically, to know and understand science, history, and the organization of society, and to know the best that has been written and created. Along with these direct benefits, the schools provide students with organized athletics, dramatic and musical productions, publications, service to the community, role models, and the opportunity to learn to work together with other students who have different backgrounds and interests.

What the schools do for the community

Good schools provide long term benefits to the entire community by educating every young person to the limits of his or her ability. Democracy can prosper only when every voter can make wise decisions based on accurate information and education. Our social, economic, civic, and cultural life depends on educated elected leaders, entrepreneurs, employees, and professionals.

Good schools also provide immediate tangible benefits to the community. People decide where to purchase a home according to the quality of the local schools. Property values rise and fall with the excellence of the school system.
